Snapchat Takes New Approach To Advertising

Snapchat is now offering favourable and flexible advertising deals to video content partners in a bid to boost the appeal of videos on its platform.  They’ve already signed deals with major media companies such as NBCUniversal, Turner and Viacom, which gives the producers the first right to sell sponsorships and ad slots within their programs. Media companies even seem to be getting a favourable cut on ads they publish.


Voice Shopping To Increase 1900% by 2022

A study by OC&C Strategy Consultants   predicts that voice shopping will increase from a $2 billion industry to $40 billion in 2022. This shift in buying behaviour is believed to be driven by an increase in consumers purchasing and using smart speakers like Amazon Echo or Google Home. Amazon currently has the largest market share in the US at 10% (Google Home is sitting at 4%).

Multiple Facebook Messenger Feature Updates

In a bid to better connect businesses and their customers, businesses can now customise chat through Facebook Messenger. This plugin allows people to easily interact with businesses across their website and on the messenger platform without losing conversation history.

Facebook Dubbed The New ‘Blue-Collar LinkedIn’

Facebook has tapped into a gap in the market for low-skilled job seekers and has now rolled out job posts. Said to be the new “blue-collar LinkedIn”, the new feature is available in 40 countries so far. Businesses will be able to post job openings to a job tab on their Page and also promote with ads. Job seekers can discover openings, auto-fill applications with their Facebook profile information, edit and submit their application, and communicate via Messenger to schedule interviews.

Airbnb Adds New High-End Traveller Tier

Airbnb has introduced Airbnb Plus and Beyond by Airbnb that aims to target higher-end customers. Airbnb Plus homes are described as providing “quality and comfort”, while the luxury tired Beyond by Airbnb offers trips including hospitality, a custom experience and higher end home selection.

Kylie Jenner’s One Tweet Causes Snapchat’s Value To Drop $1.3B

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star recently sent a tweet to her 24.5 million followers that sent Snapchat’s stock value on fire. The tweet read: “Sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me…ugh this is so sad”. Jenner’s tweet instantly went viral on Twitter gaining 315,000 likes, 60,000 re-tweets and 4,200 comments in just 24 hours. As a result, Snapchat’s stock price fell 6.1% losing $1.3 billion of its market share. Don’t mess with Kylie.
